How is it possible that every direction I ride is into the wind?
If you answer a cellphone while riding, should you pull over?
Why are so many people passing me?

(ring ring) “Hi, is 24601 in? Hi, I’m calling on behalf of your alumni association.”

Right, go on…. I’m preparing myself for the inevitable appeal for…

“I’m just calling to tell you that we received your recent donation and… well… that’s it. Thank you for supporting your alumni.”

That’s it? I think its part of a ploy to keep me off balance and soften me up for their next call.

But its nice.

Dear world, it has been a topsy-turvy weekend and here we are on Monday and we’re still all over the place.

Why does doing the right thing seem so hard?

More later.

Update: OK, whats going on? Well..

Over the weekend, I went to a stag in Whistler. This one went even more poorly than my LAST stag in Whistler. Basically, I arrived in Whistler to be informed the groom was heading back to Vancouver in an ambulance. In fact, we probably passed him on the way up. Prepping your liver for a night of punishment and then telling it “shut up, we’re visiting the hospital” is quite a roller coaster. That and its the first time I’ve been in the presence of somebody being prepped for OR. (Dear Bard. Probably saw some of your colleagues there. Both the resident and the attending showed up)

Sunday was a fun joyous day. Greek Easter – about a million people next door. They started roasting the lamb at around 10AM in the morning and had probably cleared all the chairs by 10PM. We got an invite, had a little lamb and a little wine and met a lot of people named “George” and “John”. I never knew that it was a tradition for sons to take their grandfathers name, but it makes sense.

We bit the bullet a little while ago and have embarked on the process of getting our underground oil tank removed. We’ve known about it since we moved in — we knew it needed to be done. In fact, its a legal requirement for in Vancouver. Everything is being done above board and well, its expensive. Just the preliminaries are not cheap and the final bill will really depend on what they find. We’re holding on to our hats and gritting our teeth.
