He knew that Mother’s Day was a special day for Mom.

When I asked him what we should get Mom, maybe something to eat, he made me grin from ear to ear with his honesty and heartfelt suggestion.

Food is a comfortable hug, y’know, and you give your best and most favorite hugs to people that you care for dearly.

Mom, I got you soup. Love, your son. May 2010

Well, first I thought I’d highlight SlantyOJ’s thought of the day from my last Deep Thoughts post:

SlantyOJ: Thought of the day (due to kids liking to turn on their own clock radios so the can dance during the day): Why do alarm clocks default to going off a midnight?

Answer: Sadistic user design or maybe just poor design.

Now, my thought or observation for the day… Its just an “out of the mouths of babes” moment. One of the first statements out of my sons mouth yesterday was “Dad. I need coffee.”

You keep that up, I’m getting you a Starbucks mug for your third birthday.

Dear blog, I haven’t written in a long time. Having a kid will do that to one’s blogging — something about priorities. Its not to say that gems of amusement still don’t flit through my mind, its just that often something else comes up.

Dear blog, I haven’t written in a long time. Having a kid will do that to one’s blogging — something about priorities. Its not to say that gems of amusement still don’t flit through my mind, its just that often something else comes up.

Here’s a few thoughts:

Hey, I won the weekly “baby goes poop” lottery as somebody else found a really messy diaper this morning. You’ll have to imagine the kid as a slot machine, where you pull the lever (a leg??), wait for the wheels to spin, and see what comes out. And you hope you’re not the unlucky one.

And I know why the old woman swallowed a fly! Y’know the old lady who swallowed a dog to catch the cat to catch the spider to catch the fly?? She swallowed a fly because her mouth was wide-open while she was huffing and puffing on her ride to work. Except you can replace the old woman with me, 24601.

You know you’re getting old when: (1) You’re jumping up and down (literally) celebrating the late third period goal by your hockey team and you twinge a back muscle. (2) You’re explaining why you can’t jump up and down too much with your toddler, and you hope you didn’t wake the baby.

So there.
