About
This site is the product of a demented mans reality
Actually, its birth was the collaborative effort by a group of demented men. The history goes something like this…
In the beginning there was nothing…
Then God created Spinal Tap…
Eons later, God realized that he need to create beings to properly appreciate Spinal Tap, so he created the Slanty. Forged out of the very same primordial ooze (although a little past its best before date), Slanty was a house of questionable architecture full of guys that went on to become legends…At least in their own minds. It was the hangout, your home away from Abbotsford (or wherever your home happened to be). With many inhabitants, not all of them always employed, it was usually a good bet that somebody was home, the door would be open, and you’d be welcome. Insane parties, stacked couches, the beer wall, Nerf guns as standard equipment all added to good friends, good times and good memories. And heck, you had to be good good friends to put up with the lack of cleaning that seemed prevalent there…
And then they condemned the building just before it fell over and sank into the swamp, and Slanty Mark 2 was forged.
And then that one burnt down, fell over, then sank into the swamp, so Slanty Mark 3 was forged. We’re still partying away, waiting for the inevitable.
On the other hand, SlantyNet began as a waste of time. Obviously, in that respect it has not moved too far from its roots.
This site started as a personal homepage, mid-1997. It looked a lot like this page. In those days, we, the ‘other house’ styled ourselved as the AntiSlanty (or AntiShanty, whichever you prefer). Whatever they were, we were not. Oh, but how easy it was to walk on the dark side…
The pictures in that first site were drawn in a single ‘postcard’ by Mikko. The full postcard was included in a site redesign. The picture drawn there by Mikko has survived many house moves, a reminder of a simpler time.
The domain ‘www.slanty.net’ was registered in the early days of the Internet boom, mid-1999, but not early enough, as www.slanty.com was taken. And it still is, even though the company sure as hell isn’t using the site for much. I’ve offered to buy the domain a couple of times, but no dice. (Update: They are now using it as a reasonable homepage. )
With a new site, and a new purpose (e/n), came a site redesign. (I have most of the site on my hard drive, but its not viewable at this time.) At first, we were running NewsPublisher on VirtualAve, until our comments got eaten by the VirtualAve server a couple of time. We eventually moved to NewsPro running on my home computer and then were running some ungodly combination of NewsPro and an Access database, accessed by ColdFusion and since have moved to WordPress. I’ve learned a lot since 1997. This site is my baby, you name it, I did the work on it.
Hello,
I’ve recently looked over your site and believe that your reader-base and visitors might be a possible advertising venue for us.
I am interested in traditional link advertising as well as using link “blurbs on certain pages of your site, or on certain articles – perhaps even submitting articles. This includes but is not limited to purchasing a post also. We are open to any idea that would allow us to capture interested readers, but would prefer to avoid the traditional “Ads by Google and “Sponsored Links sections.
Please let me know if you’d be open to discussing advertising possibilities further.
Thanks in advance,
Darrell
