For those of you not in Vancouver, its unusually hot here. Might break records this week, but even if we don’t, we’re into the 30 degrees (especially a little inland for sure)
For those of you in Vancouver, you’re probably up now (10PM) praying that it’ll get cool.
And, and PS, we’ve been keeping it “quiet” (ie: not on SlantyNet) until now, but many who have seen us know — the next kid is coming and due in January.
Thats right, the wife is pregnant and trying to sleep through a heat wave. Oof.
Edit: Apparently, I’ve used “melting” for a description of it being hot quite a few times in the past. I now recall complaining about the heat in our southwest facing corner apartment — complaining that Speedos would be a reasonable solution. THAT’D be hot.

That grapefruit have defense mechanisms. Grapefruit juice in the eye appears to be quite annoying. Kate won though, there is no more grapefruit. Let that be a lesson to future grapefruits…

There is an age old feud between Oxford and Cambridge for who is best. I’m in Cambridge at the moment for a “British Association for Cancer Research” conference. I’ve had a little look around Cambridge in the time i’ve been here (mostly fueled by the need for a drink- ie pub visits) and think I can make up my mind. Oxford is a much better place! I don’t say that just because it’s my hometown, but ’cause I think it’s a nicer size. I will reserve my final judgement though as my boss and i plan on hitting the Cambridge Wine Shop before we leave…

Word to those that want to listen. Don’t let your domain name expire becuase you can’t be bothered checking which credit card the auto-renew will try to use.
A frantic 2 hours later we’re back online. I was a little worried that I was going to have to start from scratch. I’m sure no one noticed though!!
Anyway, now that’s all sorted, here is an addition to the “something you don’t see everyday” catagory. I work at a hospital. We have a “social” club. it’s just a pub, but a little less formal. But being attached to the hospital, you see people in scrubs and uniforms quite often. The other day I saw something really special…
Yes this is a (bad I’ll admit) photo of a guy in his dressing gown and slippers with a nose feed. He had to walk about 200 m from the closest ward to get his pint. That’s dedication to your beer!
