Blondie and I missed the Boxing Day party for the first time in years and years.
Its a strange feeling, really, to be so clear headed today.
Not liking it that much.

We chose to have pheasant for dinner this Christmas. Kate did the preparation and found a few surprises in the process (namely shotgun shot)

It cooked up lovely on a bed of oranges…

Our little Christmas tree is not yet up to holding his ceramic decorations, but I’m sure he’ll grow into the task!

Hope everyone enjoyed their day. I’m stuffed. But that’s the way I like it this time of year! Next year, I’m hoping for a white Christmas…

Bah!
I’ve figured out that the decongestants that I can get here (containing phenylephrine not pseudoephedrine) don’t work. Pseudoephedrine is used to make crystal meth, so it’s hard to get - even in Australia I’ve read. BUT it works as a decongestant. So it wasn’t until about 1.30am this morning that Kate had her bright idea. Hayfever tablets! They dry the nasal system up just fine… So from 1.30am this morning, I slept reasonable well.
Bring on Christmas!! (4 hours 35 mins to go!)

All through our house, not a creature is stirring, not even a mouse (I am banging away on the keyboard to type this post though). Blondie and I are getting ready for a visit tonight to SlantyOJ/Proxy’s. That’s walking distance so we expect that visit to be a relatively straightforward affair (although, we may choose to brave the roads, we’ll see).
The big question, though, is actually Christmas dinner. We’re actually leaving the option open of being snowed in for Christmas dinner (and not venturing on the highways to White Rock). Its an interesting up in the air sort of situation — what do you stock up on for CHRISTMAS if you’re thinking that many nearby stores will be closed (and you want to minimize your driving?)
Based on our pantry, its crackers, cheese, pate, eggnog and wine. If it comes to that, I’m sure our family will have a grand old time watching a crackling fire.
Merry Christmas to all.
Update: Per Oz’s request, here’s a photo of the house, more photos available (including one with Santa) available in the gallery

That is like drinking and driving for the common driver, well maybe just me since I am a cheap drunk. I am always amazed at people who have their fancy sporty cars all blinged out with rims etc… and think(or are clueless) that profile tires don’t work in deep snow!
Gan touched on the snow subject, and for me the people who think just because there is more snow on the sides of the road, gives them a valid reason to:
- drive their car at a snails pace, even though their car(well tires) have no business being on the road
- park their car so far from the curb that it blocks traffic
- attempt U-turns on roads too snowy for them to drive on, only to get stuck in the snow in the middle of the intersection
- any other observations out there???
I don’t get road rage, really I don’t. But it boggles the mind what people do out there who have no business driving in the snow.
Edit: thanks for the heads up on my grammer. Though even in my AWD subaru I was having a tough time. And a few fender benders… definately isn’t safe for anyone!

Three days to Christmas and I’ve come down with a virus. Sniffles, headache (with foggy patches), aching joints and needing to urinate a lot. The last thing wouldn’t be such a problem if we had a lemon tree. To top it off, my tea tastes funny. Dang.
Thank the maker for small mercies

Kate found these 5 kg tubs of Nutella at the Winterwonderland in London last weekend. She thought the crepe people probably wouldn’t miss one, but I thought they might…

The Winter Wonderland is currently set up in Hyde Park. There were rides, German food, mulled wine (see above) and neat market stalls. Oh, it was cold too… But that’s winter right?
