Wound covers

I get a lot of scraps and chafing and cuts, so here's a little comparison of the bandages I've used so far. They're all waterproof, and can be left on for days while the wound heals. They're mostly available at any regular pharmacy. I've found that hydrocolloid is the way to go for most of my needs - they're great with low to medium exudate (how leaky they are) wounds. I've tried the Tegaderm type covers, but don't seem to work well on the types of wounds I get.

Bandage size comparison

Johnson and Johnson First Aid Advanced Care Advanced Healing Hydrocolloid - 76mm x 57mm Great for large 'leaky' scraps, cuts, bruises, abrasions.

Nexcare Tegaderm - 60mm x 69mm Good for light abrasions - nothing too deep as that tends to have more exudate.

Nexcare Active Wound Cover - 60mm x 88.9mm and 31.7mm x 63.5mm Seems pretty much like Tegaderm, only cheaper, and in different sizes. I could only find this in the US. Apparently this stuff is available in a roll, so you can customize the size of the covering.

Life brand Fast Healing Bandages Hydrocolloid - 29mm x 59mm and 21mm x 42mm Relatively cheap, comes in the most popular sizes. What more can you ask for?

Updates to follow shortly once we’re all home from l’hopital!

Fall report

I've been a bit of a slacker with the lack of updates, so I'll throw in something quickly now, since it's turned into Fall, and that means a slightly different schedule.

Curling has started up again. Tonight was our first game. Our third and skip were gone, so I ended up skipping, Cheryl did third and Dean our substitute did lead. We had a line on another lead, but they never showed, so Cheryl and Dean both threw 3 rocks each. We won tonight too! My take out shots are awfully light - something I need to work on. The draws are much better.

Anyways, the curling crowd isn't glamorous. Not that I'm chasing glamour or anything like that with my sports, but there's no spandex or high tech wear in curling. It's a lot of individual choice and ideas on staying warm and comfortable. Since I shaved my head this year, I'm thinking a hat would be a good idea for next time.
