SlantyOD has pointed out that flights to Ireland are fairly cheap. But there are alternatives. For example, check out Google Maps instructions for Vancouver to Belfast See in particular, step 23.
In other news, the wife is telling her employees about her condition today. I guess that makes it official. I’ve got to start worrying about cribs, strollers, daycare and university. I’ll add it to the to-do list.
And in “unreal news” (and maybe it is unreal) here’s a photo and video from Japan that purports to show goldfish living in a layer of water inside a functioning deep fryer. Makes me think about the forty fish and end of that.

Here’s some photos of our recent trip to Mount Stewart, a National Trust estate to the south-east of Belfast.
Again, probably best if you’re bored…

Did lots of exploring of the Belfast surrounds this weekend. Wandered up Cavehill on Saturday, and if you’re really bored you can see the pictures (caution! mostly unedited and boring!):

Scott Adam’s blog rocks. His fascinating tagents remind me most of Gan, but I could probably get to that level of weird on a good day.
Did you hear about the Wisconsin man who is charged with having sex with a dead deer that he found in a ditch?
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1122061deer1.html
His defense was that the deer was already dead, so it wasn’t technically an “animal when the sex happened. The judge disagreed and ruled that a dead deer is still an animal.
This decision sets a dangerous precedent. By the judge’s reasoning, any guy who gets aroused while wearing leather pants has – in the strictest legal terms – his wiener in a cow.
The story doesn’t mention if the dead dear was male or female. That’s important because I want to know if the perpetrator was gay. Without that information, I don’t know how fascinated I should be.
Read the whole thing: Oh DeerÂ

Vancouver to Belfast direct for only Cdn$700 (including all taxes). You’ve seen the murals, why wouldn’t you do it!?? =)

I’ve just put the last coat of varnish on our new kitchen benches. To cut a long story short (which I know is not like me at all…) when we purchased this place 8 months ago, the kitchen was only 2 and a half years old. The ppl we bought off were old (60’s?). Their kitchen renovation was not to our liking (read: ugly laminex bench tops and nightmare inducing, very disturbing feature tiles). I sourced some wooden bench tops from labs being renovated at work. The timber is beautiful, and so it should be, I’m told it’s Queensland rainforest! Kinda hard to get now with our sensible anti-logging laws (no dig at Canada intended : ) Anyway, after spending about 30 hours sanding the “protective” paint off the benches (after the benches laughed at paint stripper- as expected!), cutting, installing and varnishing I’ve finally removed my ventilator to ingest my cup of tea.
So it got me thinking, who remembers the days when personal protective equipment included
- holding your breath
- closing your eyes and
- turning your head…
These days I don’t enter the garage without putting on my safety glasses. Am I really getting old too?? Where did I put those picture tiles? Were they that bad?
Photos to come if you’re interested…
and cutting and installing them, I’ve finally varnished and finished them.

Here’s a bunch of Belfast murals for ya’ll. These are just ones that I walk by on my way home, they’re pretty wild. I’m pretty sure this is something that Northern Ireland has going on that you won’t see anywhere else in the world. I took some with my phone, so the quality isn’t great, but they’re good enough for you to get the gist…

I was going to go through and explain them all, to the best of my abilities, but I’m lazy. If you’d like me to let me know and I’ll do another post…
