Not building an e-commerce empire in Vancouver (Jan 2007 edition)
Since I’ve been silent for a few weeks, I thought I’d also pipe up. Various reasons for the radio silence….
- The new year often seems to bring out the worst in my inner workaholic — although I haven’t been in the office much on weekends, leaving the office at 5 has been… infrequent.
- My inner workaholic is also serving notice at home too — read a great motivational book about organizing, and I’m using it to manage my desktop both at home and at work. As an example, for those of you that know my workflow, I’m down to emails in the single digits in my inbox and maybe twenty items on my desktop. Yup, I can actually see my funny desktop. We’ll see how long it lasts, but I’m pretty optimistic.
- We’ve actually been seeing people! That’s a great reason to not post — seeing ‘em in real life and kicking their ass in Carcassone or holding their babies or watching them fly a bike 70 feet through the air… Real life — good!
- This might be a bit cryptic, but, the wife and I have put in a down payment on our next big expansion project. Its a little bit… stressful… Its a pretty big expenditure for uncertain results.
Thanks for the good times January. Bring on the rest of the year.

#2: lifehacker.com is a nice resource for the efficiency-obsessed.
#4: thank you for sparing us the details on how you procured the “funds” for your “down payment.” good luck + i hope you “break ground” soon.
#2 – I had been reading lifehack.org, but I’ve added your suggestion to my list. I am also reading them in a feed reader which I had not used before with any consistency. It’s definitely helped with my browsing habits — I surf less and do targeted reading more. Of course, now I’m actually following a LOT more sites…
#4 – I’ll leave it to your “imagination” then.
I think installing parapets is always a good investment, especially to fend off guys like Wolf and 2D wandering about looking for more slums. Are you going full stone with murder holes or starting up with simple wood spikes to get something up quickly?
Turrets, turrets, turrets!! Go the turrets!! I’ll be your archer!!
Good to hear about the lay-away plan. Sorry about the costs tho, that sucks big time. Will be worth it in the long run.
will it come with some sort of warranty?
‘Lay-away plan’? ‘Sucks big time’? I’m not even going to start in on K’s post…
As with many things in life, there are no warranties, express or implied. I’m at relative amounts of peace with that.
On the other hand, with Slanty, I think we can warrant that we’ll take it to the lowest common denominator. Quickly. When Slanty is up. Which we don’t warrant.
Wait, I don’t get it. Hang on….nope still don’t get it. Just tell me what the apropriate congratulation is at the appropriate time and I’ll send a gift. Maybe featuring some australiana.
Yeah, I think I get it, but I’m afraid to say anything in case what I’m thinking is waaay off.
If only Hallmark made equally cryptic congratulations cards for these Slanty.net announcements…
After investing for a while, it’s more a chore than it is fun. Diversify into ZZZZZ-funds now as there won’t be much chance to invest in it in the future.
All I can say about turrets is “Invisible Wizard Blizzard”.
…and the other, it all seems to be in the last little while one big Zergling Rush. Can’t wait till they all start growing up into Hydralisks or Lurkers and ask to borrow the car on the weekend. Or worse yet grow up to be professional Zombie Killers. What shame THAT would bring to the household name.
and those of us who aren’t producing zerglings are massing FIREBATS to keep those slobbering, crying, teat-sucking hordes at bay.
Nice desktop btw. I have that t-shirt from threadless.com titled “Nothing rhymes with orange”
