The reverse huli
I went out in some fairly wavey waters yesterday, to a bit past Stanley Park.
The newbie habit of leaning left when a wave hits is still with me, and I suppose I'll have it until I get a bit more comfortable with riding the waves.
A funny thing though... after we finished riding the waves in, I noticed that my ama was starting to sink. Not a good thing, especially when you're still 2 kilometres from the dock. I did make it back to the dock without doing a reverse huli, but only by leaning way right and paddling like a gimped dragonboater. It didn't help that the ama was basically a massive drag in the water. After we got it, I found out that the iako hole in the ama was pushed all the way through, and the floation chamber in the ama was completely flooded. I'm just glad I didn't have swim back to the dock. The water was still pretty cold.
