Hollyburn Ridge

I went up snowshoeing to Hollyburn Ridge this weekend. I've been on the freebie trails up on Cypress before, but never Hollyburn. It's an interesting hike. The first bit is a pretty narrow path with little room for exploration, as it sits between some very dense trees and a steep valley between the nordic and downhill areas, and the boundaries of Cypress' cross-country area. It opens up a lot after the first 500 metres or so, and steadily climbs.
It was disheartening at times to crest a peak, and see another peak beyond that! The view was absolutely gorgeous at the top though. It was also shiny, and I ended up ditching my jacket. I'm really glad I didn't wear long underwear... it was hot  even with just the softshell pants.

Next time, I'm going to check out the backcountry trails that go off the downhill area.

May the road nice to meet you…

That’s from a little St Paddy’s day sign in a dollar store near my bus stop. May the road nice to meet you, may the wind always be at your back. Which isn’t the way the phrase is meant to go.

Anyway, it’s St Paddy’s day this Friday which means that the Irish and I will be drinking at the Frog and Firkin again. I recommend you get there as soon as possible after work as they’re not taking reservations, and last year they had a line! And together we will hoist many a Guinness and reminisce about past St Paddy’s days, none of which I remember…
