March 2006

Spring is here!

They say that you can tell its spring when a young mans fancy turns to love.  Since I no longer fancy myself a young man, I have to rely on other signs.

  • I mowed the lawn (should’ve been done in September/October, twas looking pretty grungy)
  • Cherry blossoms.  In Vancouver, its always cherry blossoms that mean spring.  Of course, it was pretty touch and go just 10 days ago when the blossoms competed against the snow.  (picture and picture)
  • Hockey is in the air.  In the case of our Canucks, they are in some serious danger of missing the playoffs — the first time in years.  (Well, not counting the lockout year I suppose).  In related news, I am in serious danger of not participating in the SCHLUBB for the same reason.
  • My body aches from Ultimate.  It’s a little early for me as this is the first season I’ve participated in the Winter Hat league, but I would do it again.  Its a fun bunch of people, definitely love the game and know the game.  (You have to be a little… die-hard… to want to play in the winder, wouldn’t ya??)

What’s making you think its springtime??

Truth in advertising

Snakes on a Plane.

You’ll either want to see it, or you won’t.

And in other news, if you want to see 20,000 Koreans go crazy for Starcraft all at once, with chicks crying and stuff, then has OJ found the link for you.

Today is for your ‘man’… March 14, a month after Feb.14

If its on wikipedia, then it is true!  I think the information speaks for itself.  Time to reciprocate ladies.

Splish splash, I definitely didn’t want to take a bath

So there I was, doing a 8K time trial when I took some heavy wake from the left side, and flipped into False Creek. Argggghhh! And I was only 2 K from finding out how long it takes me to do 8K!
Some lessons learnt:
1. The water is quite cold, and the shock makes it hard to breathe for a bit
2. Huli'ing in the Creek at night is a bit different from huli'ing in the Aquatic Centre's pool
3. Don't get on top of an OC1 to flip it back up, you only do that with a OC6.
4. Remember to put a bloody bailer in your OC1.

There. That's about all I can think of.

I will tell you that power dry underwear works really well, even when wet. So does my fleece paddling top. I knew I picked that stuff for a reason! I was really impressed that my lights kept working even when they had been dunked! Speaking of lights, they're kinda on the fritz now.

The Turtle ones from MEC aren't water proof, and the white one (which I've had longer) is completely corroded from frequently getting wet. It no longer stays on.
The red one is still working, but doesn't flash anymore.

They seem easy to take apart... I'm gonna try.
The good thing about these things is that they're easy to take apart. After drying them out, both are working again. Flashing mode is kinda dull on the white one.

My mini tail light is doing really well. It has a rubber seal, and it still works perfectly. No water inside it whatsoever!
