Why don’t I start reading the series in twenty years or so??
For those of you that are Robert Jordan fans and are anxiously awaiting the next chapter of the Wheel of Time…
Don’t hold your breath. From his website…
I have been diagnosed with amyloidosis. That is a rare blood disease which affects only 8 people out of a million each year, and those 8 per million are divided among 22 distinct forms of amyloidosis. They are distinct enough that while some have no treatment at all, for the others, the treatment that works on one will have no effect whatsoever on any of the rest…In any case, I intend to live considerably longer than that (the median life expectancy)…I sat down and figured out how long it would take me to write all of the books I currently have in mind, without adding anything new and without trying rush anything. The figure I came up with was thirty years.
To be clear, I admire his moxy, I’m just pointing out that if you’re a fan, you’ll be waiting damn long time for his last book. You can read his full post at http://www.tor.com/jordan/

I gave up hope that he’d ever finish the series 2 books ago. I gradually got the feeling that he was stringing us along ’cause he’d stumbled upon a great cashcow in the storyline, and just decided to put out a new book in the series whenever he had to pay for a big balloon payment on a car, or a vacation, or expensive christmas, or whatever.
I’m currently slogging my way through Knife of Dreams. I think of been introduced to about 800 new characters, from the barmaids cousin three times removed that Faile spoke three words to in passing, to every single incarnation in Matts historical memory, which pretty much covers everybody who lived in the Second Age, plus a great deal from the First Age.
Plus all their friends.
And what they were wearing.
And what their favorite cheese is on Sunday.
…perhaps one day he’ll put out a book on every person who’s ever been in this story. Me thinks though that it’d be just about as long a selection of books as the original story itself…
I don’t think I’ve read a book since I was 25, I was waiting for him to finish.
Isn’t he, like, 100 years old already?
Huh, apparently he’s only 57. Not sure why I thought he was that old.
Coz of the books he’s already written??
I’m still trying to finish the first book in this series, but they are so damn long I’m not sure if I’ll ever finish reading them all…
