*click* rev, rev – CLUNK! psssshhhtt! oh oh…
my good and loyal friend for the past two years, my 4-door toyota tercel, passed away of a cracked cylinder head or blown head gasket (i’m not sure which) on sunday. he was 12 years old and had 191,732 miles (308,497 km) on the odometer.
trina, who has a penchant for giving nicknames to cars, refered to him as “toyo-san” in recognition of his japanese heritage. and true to his toyota namesake, toyo-san was one tough car. despite a rusted-out radiator, an exhaust pipe ready to fall off, only 60% compression on two cylinders, a leaked-out a/c, and a dented fender, hood, and roof, he got me to and from work every day, and took trina and i on road trips to toronto, montreal, new york, and even PEI. in fact, on one trip to toronto, two of the spark plugs inexplicably failed somewhere in the middle of upstate new york. we drove all the way from new york state to toronto, about 3 hours, on only TWO cylinders. that’s right. toyo-san was one tough mofo.
he got towed off to the scrap heap today. a moment of silence, please.
okay, so, we’re thinking of getting a new car sometime in the next little while. if anybody has suggestions, let’s hear them. right now, i think the front runners are either a certified used honda civic (one or two years old), or a scion xa. i’m leaning toward the scion, i think. and here’s a neat tool that’ll tell you how much pollution your particular car will put out. an ’04 scion xa puts out 7040 lbs of co2 over 12,500 miles, vs a prius, which puts out 4363. nifty.

The Metro puts out 6063lbs apparently, though I don’t know about that as you can’t chose between the 3 and 4 cylinder models.
Civic puts out around 6700lbs. Man, that’s a lot of CO2, can’t even quite comprehend what a pound of CO2 looks like.
Hmmm…thought I had a 2001 Highlander, but that option isn’t available for Toyota until 2002. Anyway, my vehicle isn’t exactly the cleanest, but it’ll get you up that mountain.
2002 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER – 11385 lb of CO2
What about a Humvee, Dale? I’ve heard that they’re sturdy vehicles. Good mileage, and they probably don’t pollute that much, either.
is it just me or is the hummer a totally gay vehicle? i mean, it’s just so over the top, so trying hard to be some thing masculine, that every time i see one i except to see three oiled guys with boas on the roof, gyrating to a thumping techno beat. those ridiculously oversized tires? it’s like a stuffed leather thong being waved in your face. i see a hummer and except to see rupaul behind the wheel. every hummer is like it’s own little gay pride parade. HUMMER == GAY
I have to agree with Anonymous. Hummers are pretty sturdy and given that most people can’t afford to pay for the gas, they don’t actually pollute that much…
I think 3D is seeing oiled guys with boas everywhere…
Perhaps a H3? It’s less feather boa waving than the H2. A H3 is more bisexual.
Having said that, I highly recommend an Echo. Actually it’s the same engine and chassis as an Echo.
I mean same as a Scion. Must not try to type this early from now on.
mostly, i see oiled guys in boas when i’m hanging around gord on halloween.
also, substitute “expect” wherever i wrote “except” in my last post. dyslexia.
Ha! It’s funny, I don’t see “gay” with the Humvee. I see guys with itsy bitsy teensy weensy little…hands…
Oh yeah, I was anonmymous. I keep forgetting to sign my name…
did consider the echo, but they stopped making them in ’05.
Right, they call it a Yaris now.
What’s exclusively gay about hummers?
Oh I see, you mean the car.
