hello all! i’ve got two news briefs from this corner of the contin- what’s that? oh, okay, fine. news briefs from this stinking, fetid, imperialist backwater. the caffeine monkey made me say that.

first of all, T successfully defended her dissertation a couple weeks ago. this means that she’s dr T, though it won’t be official until the graduation ceremony in may. however, this does not mean that she’s allowed to operate on people. it’s a doctor of philosophy, which means that at best she’s allowed to theorize on the implications of operating on somebody, but not actually touch them, at least not with a scalpel. her committee said that her disseration was actually interesting, which apparently is high praise, because apparently they usually aren’t.

secondly, and as an offshoot of the first, we’re moving to buffalo in the summer because she just got offered a tenure-track job at the university of buffalo. suny buffalo, to be exact. this second thing is much more exciting that the first, and is actually a whole lot more exciting than it sounds. yes, buffalo. it’s a lot better than worcester, a lot cheaper, and is 10 mins from canada. it’s a win-win-win. seriously.

this means that if you haven’t visited us out here yet, or were planning a re-visit, you should do it soon as possible. you could plan an itinerary that includes boston, new york, and washington. do it! do it soon!
