A bit of what Canmore has to offer

Hi all,

We’ve started playing around with free picture websites, so this is the first photo album I’ve put together, showing a few shots from some of the hikes we’ve been on lately. Dee may edit things, and I’m sure we’ll add other photo albums later, but here’s where you’ll find them:

Details on the hikes:

Shadow Lake: I did this one with a few friends, Donna was working, I believe. at 10k bike ride, mostly uphill, followed by a mild 4k hike. Great little outing, but surprising that the cabins at this lake go for about $150 per night. Can ski to them in the winter, I believe.

C Level Cirque: Our first real hike in the area, it’s about 4k each way. Met a nice couple (and their puppy) along the way, who encouraged us to hike up one of the many peaks. Not a lot to see at the end of the hike, but a nice little hike nonetheless.

Karst Spring: We did this one with a group from my workplace. Not a huge workout, since it’s just a few km of riding then a short but intense climb to the spring source. Very scenic, though. We were in rough shape because we’d done Miner’s peak the day before and our thighs were in agony. This loosened us up very nicely, though.

Miner’s Peak: We were going to hike up to Ha Ling peak, which is the one to the right of the moon in the pictures, but when we reached the saddle between the two peaks we saw that Ha Ling was quite crowded (20-30 people) so we chose to head the other direction. Better view, as it turned out.

Floe Lake: Other hikes were training for this one. Overnight trip with 30 to 40 lb backpacks on. The first 8 km was a nice, rolling trail through a fully burnt forest with a few strenuous areas, total elevation gain of 200 meters. The next 2 km was nothing but switchbacks with a 500 m elevation gain. Exhausting, but we were then at the lake. The next day we did an additional 2.7k (up 300) to Numa Pass, but left most of our gear back at the lake. Snapped a few shots, them came all the way back. Total distance: 25 km in 2 days. A bit much â?? we were pretty beat and took most of the following week to fully recover.

SW:R

It’s a bit old, so if you follow Star Wars fan fiction/movies you’ve no doubt seen it already. But if you haven’t I highly recomend Star Wars: Revelations. If the TV shows Lucas was talking about are as good as it they might actually be worth watching. (No Jar Jar that I’ve seen so far)..

End of Summer

Son of a C&(#$& smoking F&*$()%G B&*$H, summer is coming to an end.
So I am going to try and kill myself with fire, copious amounts of meat and three kegs of beer.

Any one else in?

Date: September 10th
Time: 3:00pm – 3:00am (if last time was any indication).

Email me if you want the address:

Oh, and this time we ask for a little help. If you are coming in a group or plan to eat and drink a lot we ask for a little something to add to the table (chips, salad…appies) and maybe a few bucks for the kegs. No worries if you are just coming out for a beer or two.

Oh, and NO F*#$%*&G watermelon. My kitchen was a sea of slimy red goup the morning after the last party.

Oh, and rain or shine. We have a tarp system all ready to go in the event of rain.

Bring friends. Have fun.

Ciao

ExpressView BC, Canada?

I am wondering if a town in the US will actually do this to get all of their residents free ‘basic’ television? Funny thing is as of last night, you don’t have to change your town’s name. Seems the new encryption DishNetwork and Bell have just finished switching over to has already been compromised. Imagine spending millions of dollars to send out these new cards and then when you finally switch over all your customers the code gets broken!

Computer 1 : Lifeguard 0

A drowning girl was identified by a computerized camera system called Poisedon in a UK pool and a page was sent to the lifeguard to save her. The story also has a link to the camera footage movie of the whole incident. While I can’t agree with the comments that the pool was extremely busy since the pool looked pretty mild compared to the outdoor pool I supervised in my youth (on a busy day we would get over 300 people in the pool at SouthArm), I do think the system is pretty cool and worthwhile.

I for one, welcome our mousey overlords

Apparently, scientists have created a mouse that will grow missing parts back. Heart, toes, joints, tail — it’ll all regenerate. Anything except the brain. So as long as we don’t addle our minds, there’s hope for us and our livers yet.

All hail our mouse overlords, mouse strain MRL.
