Always seems especially tough going back to work after a long weekend. The normal two day weekends are so hum-drum, full of routine and chores that its a real treat getting an extra day off. A small taste of freedom for which I suppose we should all somehow give thanks to Queen Victoria. “Thank you, ma’am. May I have another?”
(I notice with some sadness that one Slanty tradition hasn’t really survived, the Victoria Day covers CD. I still have memories of receiving the FedEx bill for the CD that I sent to Dave in Australia. “This must arrive by Victoria Day”, I said. The shipping bill for $90 dollars (on a… $2 CD?) certainly is worth a chuckle. (Heck, I don’t think I was even that annoyed at the time — flabbergasted, rather.))
Shoutouts to non-queen, non-holiday granting people
Congratulations to Ian and Anne on their nuptials, I’m hoping to see some photos soon. (And I would LOVE a copy of the Powerpoint presentation that was run at the wedding — BEST POWERPOINT EVER.) Good work.
Also happy birthday to Ian (yup, he’ll have no problems remembering his anniversary) and to Kim.

K just helped me work through how to post with this new fangled system, so thought I’d toss up an extremely valuable link to those of us who like board games. I give you the best board games in the world, as ranked at Board Game Geek.
We’ve been playing Lost Cities which is, I believe, the highest ranked two player game. Not too shabby. K2 waxed both me and her hubby…

I’m picking out a thermos for you.
Not an ordinary thermos for you.
But the extra best thermos that you can buy,
With vinyl and stripes and a cup built right in!

For those of you that care, it appears that Arrested Development is back for at least one more season. Huzzah.

As I was watching television on Sunday night, I saw a number of ads for the BC Liberals. They consisted of Gordon Campbell set against a simple background, with a simple message. The negative references to the “NDP years” were kept to a minimum — possibly a maximum of one per ad, not dwelled upon, which is a stark contrast to much of the advertising that I’ve seen (from both the NDP and Liberal camps). The message was a positive one, talking about the direction that the BC Liberal party would like to take the province.
It was like a soothing sorbet for those of us tired of the election attack ads. (The only other advertising that I’ve seen like it was a full page ad in the Sun, with a set of questions and corresponding answers on environmental issues that had been posed to each party — the advertising had no position other than it was pro-environment, it simply set out the party’s answers and allowed the reader to make up their mind.)
Whether or not I agree with the BC Liberals, this was a pleasant change of pace, a pleasant change of taste.

Things we learned on SlantyME’s stag.
I’ll let other people that were there comment on what they learned.

What absolute and utter bullshit.
