Oh yes! Wyoming..

The second installment of Jerry vs Superman is out.

Also, here’s Eric Idle on the FCC, among other things (mp3 format, right click and save-as).

Update: When Robots Strike!! (so to speak)

Nerd

I have recently been filling out piles of paperwork for my stint up in Inuvik in the arctic circle this summer and one of the requirements was either a public notary certified copy of my medical degree or an official transcript from my medical school. Well, my MD degree happens to be framed and hanging and it would be a pain in the ass to take it off the wall, remove it, photocopy it with a notary present and pay said notary a fee. So, I took the path of least resistance. I logged onto the UBC student services website, something I haven’t done in a long, long time. I can remember when the website was in text form only pre mosaic days and you had to use a command line to get to it. Anyways, the site is pretty suped up these days and you can order transcripts online. So, I ordered a transcript online to be sent up to the Northwest Territories (in between Yukon and Nanuvut) and then wondered just what they were going to see on that transcript.

I opened up the link to see my grades when I was in UBC and low and behold discovered that I suffered through 356 credits. Not only that, when I looked at the marks, I only had 9 credits less than a B over the course of 2 degrees (BSc 156 creds and MD 200 creds). That’s less than 2.05%. Shit, I was a nerd. In retrospect I figure I must have slept through at least 100 of those credits though and learnt via unconscious verbal osmosis and drank through the 9 credits that were less than a B. Crazy.

Astonomy CRAZINESS!!!

Thought I’d post up a few pictures that Papa K took over a few weekends… see what you get to do when you retire?

Comet NEAT
M51 – the Whirlpool Galaxy – 37,000,000 Light years away (two galaxies colliding)
M82 – cigar galaxy , edge on – 12,000,000 Light years away
M13 – globular star cluster – 25,100 – light years contains several 100,000 stars

All 4 pics were taken at Jack Newton’s Bed & Breakfast in the sunny Okanagan.

I admit I don’t know eaxctly the equipment that was used to take the photos but I can find out or forward on any quesitons you might have. Just email me or post in the comments.

World Class Athletes!

Cheer on your favorite “athlete” . Will this mean a former male winner will be a female winner in the same event[or vice versa]?

Why…

Am I awake, listening to MP3s and reading about polydactyl cats?

(Update in the AM): Why are they writing about ministers in Calgary who are wearing Flames’ jerseys during their sermons? What about newsprint devoted to the ministers in Vancouver who have to speak about “Why do bad things happen to good Canuck fans?” and “Todd Bertuzzi: Fall and redemption”?

I’m trying to decide if I’m still bitter about Calgary or whether I’m ready to cheer for them.

Andy Kaufman returns?

Or at least, that’s what the website says. Pretty wild if true. Doesn’t seem likely, but it’d be legendary if it was.

Running in the woods

I usually play paintball once a year… either at stags, or an impromptu get together.
Since it’s getting on near June, I figured it’s time to organize one myself, since I don’t see any forthcoming occasions to play.

Panther Paintball in Surrey/Langley was pretty good last time, so I’m thinking we’ll play there again.

I’m a bit of a equipment geeks, so I’m looking at decent goggles. Requirements? Cheap, with an upgradable lens. Brass Eagle has a XShield that shares lens with more advanced goggle systems. That’s looking mighty intriguing.

Helpful Ultimate Stuff (from Kevin)

Hello All,

I was doing some Ultimate surfing last night and stumbled across across a couple of bits of good reading – especially useful for those of us newer to the sport or those wanting to improve.

(1) Beginner’s Guide: I adapted this from a Web site into a Word document so you can read it offline. This is a great overview of strategy, fundamentals, and plays for both offence and defence. I particularly like the defensive “Clam” play – very appropriate given our preference for zone defence…

(2) Rules Companion: This is great reference for those of us who are too busy to read the minutia of the rules – it goes over (in plain language) the frequently-asked-questions that crop up in Ultimate all the time. Things like picks, fouls, marking, etc. are all covered in
easy-to-understand ways with real-world examples.

See you all at 6:00 on Thursday @ Musqueam.

Cheers,

KM
