Gentlemen, start your livers..
Now that the summer is coming to a close we’ve decided to organize a fin d’ete party, in the form of a bicycle ‘race’ and call it the ’1st Annual Tour De Slanty!’ Basically, this Saturday we’ll meet at the park at the foot of Trafalgar (at Cornwall) at 1:00 with our bikes. Maybe have a beer while we wait for everyone to assemble. At 1:30 we hop on the bikes and head off to various pubs around the city. 5 pubs in 5 hours, eventually ending up at Dan’s house for a bbq. Ironman distance is drinking a pint at each bar, Half-Iron is drinking a glass, and Olympic is just doing the biking. The list of bars as it stands right now is:
1) Tatlow’s
2) Cheshire Cheese (on West Boulevard)
3) Flying Club
4) Penny Lane
5) Cedar Cottage
Let us know if you’re interested. We’re thinking of charging people $20, for which you’ll get food and drink at Dan’s place. So either email me (@ SlantyOD at hotmail dot com) or leave a note in the comments. People are of course welcome to just come to the bbq afterwards, but any real athletes will do the biking section.
This is of course all weather permitting. If the weather doesn’t hold (and it’s iffy) we’ll be maybe getting together for a Father Ted marathon, location forthcoming.

Where does a snoozie fit in?
i don’t have a bike and my legs aren’t short enough for a trike.
Umm, bikes aren’t that hard to come by, you know, if you want to join in the fun.
Oy, drinking and riding! The murder and mayhem liable to be caused will create a traffic deadlock for hours and effectively shut down the entire city!
Cool.
We may be at the BBQ, but will pass on the cycling.
We should consider offering commemorative T-shirts to honor the occasion. This would, of course, involve an additional fee.
Already considered, but I think time may be a factor on that one..
Where’s my bike? Whatever happened to that machine of fun? I’d be in if I could. it’s not the bike ride that discourages me, it’s the 20 hr plane flight. Someone told me that they are cutting back on b33r that they are offering – it’s no longer worth flying…
With the title gentlemen start …does that truly limit it to men? Cause I have a lot of experience riding my bike home intoxicated! I’m in if girls are allowed.
dammit i need a bike!
Somebody must have one they can loan you? Anybody?
Since none of the “men” I hang around with would I deem as gentlemen…I do believe the invite is open to all, be you of either the male or female persuasion. So come one, come all, be tippsy and ride, ride, RIDE!
…hum…and since the BBQ is at my house afterwards, count myself and Jen in as well. Thems good times!
I’m in of course.. hopefully the last time I ride a bike in a long time.. I’m planning on dropping that extra ‘training’ wheel soon =)
If you’re dropping it, can I use it?
Incidentally, I’m in for the biking, but I’m going to a dinner afterwards, so won’t be around for the BBQ.
I wonder if they ever organize drinking/ride tours here.
you know that the best (and safest way, when on a bike,) to get from the flying club to penny lane is to take the industrial road that’s just beside marine drive. i used to drive that every day to work, and fly from fraser to 70th ave in a couple minutes.
Kent St I think it’s called, or something like that. But we’re only going from Cambie to Main, so I’m not sure it’ll be worth ourwhile. But I used to drive it everyday to get from Victoria and Marine to get to work at Fir and Broadway.
I’d never bike down Kent street…I know how fast I drive down that road, and it isn’t all that wide. If I’m going to pee myself, I’d rather do it from being drunk then from being scared…
[...] We wish all the participants the best of luck. You can read a little bit about our first Tour De Slanty, or the Tour De Slanty “coverage”. Unfortunately, photos of Tour de Slanty disappeared in the server crash of 2004 (I think). Maybe SlantyOJ could reupload?? [...]
