the return of boring astronomy!
do you have a telescope? yeah, me neither. but if i did, i’d be aiming it towards jupiter these days, because in one corner, a 70-year old hurricane weighing in at nearly the size of our planet! in the other corner, the reigning champion, the notorious great red spot, centuries-old storm and twice as big as the challenger! no kidding, batten down the hatches (whatever that means) because these two uber-storms are about to collide with one another, and they don’t care who gets caught in the crossfire!
(i apologize for the dearth of cool photos/sites about the jupiter stuff, but it’s relatively new info, so there should be some better stuff over the next few days.)
and for those of us who live in the southern hemisphere (yeah, that doesn’t include me either, but slanty Oz should pay attention here) comet LINEAR C/2000 WM1 just hit 3rd magnitude yesterday, which means you might be able to see it with the naked (snicker) eye!
in completely unrelated-to-astronomy news, for those of us who are counting, today is day 15 of no nicotine for me.

I’m sorry I haven’t been posting of late. I’ve been pretty busy at work, and there really isn’t all that much interesting stuff floating around right now. The best I’ve been able to find is Whitehouse.org. Good stuff…
